Elda Velazquez of Springfield, formerly of Del Rio, TX, left this earth life on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the age of 93. She was born in Mexico on Christmas Day, 1921 to Paz Perez, a minister and medical practitioner, and his wife Martina Valenzuela.
Elda married the love of her life Enrique Velazquez in 1949. She was a homemaker and devout Christian. Her cooking was legendary and she donated knit or crocheted items to family, friends and local charities.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Elizabeth Perez and Dr. Josue Perez. Elda and Enrique had three children: Naomi (Kevin) Greene of Springfield, Fernando (Soveida) of Del Rio, TX, Enrique Jr. of Abilene, TX.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ricky (Jessica) of Orlando, FL, Lisee (James) Villalobos of Del Rio, Vanessa (Brandon) Dawson of Del Rio, Jessica Velazquez of San Antonio, Tashia Velazquez and Ricardo Morales of Orlando.
Elda has four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Sabrielle, Adam and Riley, with three more on the way who will hear about her.
She leaves to cherish her memory extended family Meg Cairo and Lily Miksell of Springfield, many nieces and nephews in Chicago and Mexico, as well as her caregiver Lesbia Gomez and her daily companions Ginger and Titus.
Memorial Gathering: 5 – 7 pm Monday, August 17, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Animal Protective League.
