Joan M. Burns
Joan M. Burns, 87 of Springfield, died at 2:10 pm, Sunday, June 28, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born November 9, 1927 in Bloomington, IL to Carl Andrew and Agnes Hursey Harvey.
She is survived by three daughters, Julie A. (Philip) Bruns of Indian Trail, NC, Jill A. Burns and Kimberly (fiancé’ Darrel Moore) Burns both of Springfield; two grandsons, Kyle Andrew (Leah) Bruns of Mint Hill, NC and Joel David (Marlin) Bruns of Indianapolis, IN; two great grandsons; one great granddaughter; one sister, Carol (John) Schwandner of Springfield; two brothers, Terry Harvey of Crystal Lake and Carl “C.A.” (Jay) Harvey of Carrolton, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
She was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Bloomington and was then employed at St. John’s Hospital, 14 years in OB/GYN and 14 years in Adult Day care retiring in 1992.
Joan was a member of St. Agnes Church. She bowled with the St. John’s Thursday afternoon league and was a member of St. Al’s Round Robin Pinochle Club. She was a member of St. John’s Samaritans. She enjoyed fishing and going to flea markets and garage sales. She was also an avid Illini Basketball fan.
Memorial Gathering: 4-7 pm Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Christian Care or to the Animal Protective League.
