Walter Thomas Kleppin, Jr.
Walter Thomas Kleppin, Jr., 78, of Springfield, died at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home. He was born July 2, 1939 in Springfield to Walter Thomas and Alwilda Mae (Marks) Kleppin, Sr. He married Mary Kaye Houston on February 5, 1964 and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2016.
Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie Kleppin of Pleasant Plains; a son, Michael (Lori) Kleppin of Mahomet; three grandchildren, Ryon Thomas, Connor and Ashley; three great grandchildren, Ryon Thomas “RJ”, Jr., Kaleb and Samuel; one sister, Carol Smith of Springfield; companion, Judy Meredith of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by an infant twin brother, William Robert Kleppin; brother, Harold Kleppin; sister, Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Cisco and a great grandson,
Walter was a United States Army Veteran serving in Germany during the Vietnam War.
He retired in 2014 from Meijer’s after thirteen years of service. Walter enjoyed golfing and World War II History. He was past president of The Good Sam’s Camping Club. He taught dancing on roller-skates and enjoyed being a grandpa and dad. A loving man, a wonderful role model, and a hero to his family.
Memorial Gathering: 9:30 – 11:30 am, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Graveside Service: 12:00 pm, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Gary Houston officiating and where military honors will be conducted.
