Rayburn B. Martin
Rayburn B. Martin, 101, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Oct. 7, 1916 in Iron Hill, KY to Curtis and Hattie Brown Martin. He married Gloria Lanham on Oct. 12, 1946 and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1993. He married Elsie Vomachka on Oct. 22, 2006 and she preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Rae Ann Martin of Springfield and Pamela Martin of Astoria; five grandchildren, Rachel Smith, Rebekah (Harold) Hayes, Timothy, Benjamin and Melissa Wu; five great grandchildren, Shawna, Caleb, Dallton, Lizzie, and Molly; one great great grandchild, Milo.
Rayburn was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII as a medic. He received a Purple Heart and was a IL Chaplain for Purple Heart veterans. He was a member of South Side Christian Church and loved to play golf and ride his bicycle. He was employed by International Harvester for 37 years and was also a car salesman for many years.
Visitation: 3:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield.
Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Monday, January 8, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield with Robert Green officiating. Burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
