Martha Belle "Marti" Jiannoni
Martha “Marti” B. Jiannoni, 83, of Springfield, died at 8:15 am, on Friday, March 9, 2018. She was born March 6, 1935 in Springfield to Frank C. and Mary F. (Bryant) Werkau and they preceded her in death. She married Joseph Jiannoni on June 12, 1956, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2004.
Survivors include her children: Tina (Foster) Centola, Daniel Jiannoni, and Anthony Jiannoni, four grandchildren: Carrie Bohnert, Nick Centola, Camron Jiannoni and Joseph Jiannoni, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three step-brothers Vernon, John and Ernest Werkau; two half-brothers, Leonard and Donald Adams and two step children, Michael Jiannoni and Carolyn Whitehurst.
Marti was a life-long resident of Springfield. She was a tax analyst with the IL Department of Revenue retiring after 17 years of service. She was a line dancer with the Silver Steppers for 12 years, where she also taught for 5 years. The Silver Steppers danced at nursing and assisted living homes around the area. She also volunteered as an usher at Sangamon Auditorium for 10 years. She served as a judge at the Senior Olympics for shuffleboard, volunteered at the Dana Thomas house for the Mother-Daughter tea, Festival of Trees, and Senior Celebration. She loved volunteering because of the people and seeing all the happy faces.
Memorial Gathering: 4 – 7 pm, Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Memorial Service: 10 am, Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
