Lee Spradlin, 78, of Springfield, died at 3:40 am, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1939 in Murrayville, IL to John and Leta Rogers Spradlin. He married Margie “Leona” Smith on September 19, 1959 and she survives.
Also surviving are daughter, Kimberlee (Andy) Wassell of Springfield; son, Douglas (Lisa) Spradlin of Springfield; two grandchildren Kylee (Chris Morris) Wassell and Clint Spradlin; one sister Sue (Fred) Walker of Jacksonville; three brothers, John Spradlin of Jacksonville, Lisle (Mary) Spradlin of Jacksonville and Gordon (Barbara) Spradlin of Pittsfield; sister-in-law, Charlene Spradlin of Torrance, CA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Zach Wassell; one sister, Wilma Rodgers; two brothers, Merle and Lyndal Spradlin and one sister-in-law, Shirley Spradlin.
Lee retired from the Illinois Air National Guard #183 Fighter Wing after thirty eight years. He retired as maintenance wing commander of the 183rd Fighter Wing with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a US Air Force Veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church.
In his retirement, Lee loved woodworking.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, January 15, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Nicole Cox and Pastor Jeremy Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail and the United States Air Force.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Zach Wassell memorial Scholarship Fund at Lutheran High School.
