Josephine Marie Skeeters
Josephine Marie Skeeters (Luparell), 79 of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after battling pancreatic cancer.
She was born September 5, 1938 in Springfield to Tony and Anna Luparell (DiGiovanna). She married James A. Skeeters on November 12, 1955. Josephine is survived by her children: Lynn Kahbeah (Todd), James Skeeters (Tammie), Craig Skeeters, Troy Skeeters (David), Anna Skeeters (Scott), Lauri Skeeters-Smith (Phil), Shelly Kennedy (Chip), Roberto Moreno Alcantara (Isabel), and Stacey Skeeters (Brad). She is also survived by siblings John Luparell, Laura Everhart, Mary Ann Carraro, Rose Skinner, as well as 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Eva Bringle, Anna McCann, Tony, Vince, and Joseph Luparell, her grandson Sheighn Skeeters and great grandson Ari Parrish.
Josephine graduated from Lanphier High School. She worked as a secretary at Hayes Freight Lines, Franklin Life Insurance, Sangamo Electric, the Sky Harbor Inn and Laborers’ International Union where she retired. Josephine was a devoted wife for nearly 62 years. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother with a heart of gold, who gave so much to so many.
The pool was her oasis. She loved spending time floating in the water and teaching others to swim. She looked forward to Sunday cookouts, holidays surrounded by her family and visits from her best friend Margaret Miller (Kelly). Josephine’s faith was strong. She was a member of Lakeside Church of Christ for many years. Now our angel, she will be missed beyond measure.
A visitation will be held Thursday at Staab Funeral Home on 1109 S. 5th Street, Springfield, IL 62703 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will immediately follow, and then graveside services will be held thereafter at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
