James T. "Ted" Sunderland
James T. “Ted” Sunderland, 73, of Springfield, died at 4:10 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 16, 1945 to Edgar and Carol Gee Sunderland.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Pamela Sunderland of Springfield; two sons, James William “Bill” (Tammy) Sunderland of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brian (Sumer) of Assumption; two daughters, Briana and Octavia Sunderland, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Nathan, Micah, Ethan, and Lea Sunderland, and Kai Crumb-Long; three sisters, Julie (Wayne) Peterson of Hyrum, UT, Mary Worton and Jan Hoge, both of TX; one brother-in-law, Charlie Bozeman and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Ted in death are his parents; one brother, William Richard “Dick” Sunderland; and one sister, Marge Bozeman.
Ted was a resident of Springfield for the past 15 years, living in Decatur prior to Springfield. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. James also retired from the Navy after 26 years as a jet engine mechanic. Ted enjoyed watching NASCAR and wrestling. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He went to every football game that his son played in at Central A & M High School. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Graveside Service: 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
