Carrie C. Dinora
Carrie Catherine Campo Dinora of Springfield was called home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on September 10, 2017, at Heritage Health.
Carrie was born on December 29, 1936 in Springfield, the daughter of Carlo Charles Campo and Myrtle Marie Beck Campo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Richard Dinora, two brothers- Frank Joseph Campo and Dominic Anthony (D.A.) Campo, sister Rose Marie Saladino, and nephew Christopher Campo.
Carrie is survived by her sister Mary Teresa Merritt, nephews- Carl Charles Campo (Cynthia), Terry Campo, Sam Saladino (Stephanie), Tim Merritt (Jill), nieces- Lisa Campo, Francee Brown (Ed), Teresa Wyant (Bill Jr.), and nine great-nephews and nieces. Also remaining are many dear friends.
While attending grade school at SS Peter & Paul School, Carrie was known as Carla Jean Campo. She completed High School at Lanphier and Lawrence Adult Center in Springfield. In early years she worked in various clerical positions and then in Memorial Hospital’s Dietary Department. She was especially proud of her volunteer work at St. Monica’s Home for Unwed Mothers where she was a house mother and Lamaze Coach, and she assisted in placing babies in their new homes. Carrie was a strong Pro-Life Advocate and respected every baby’s life. She was a Foster Care Grandparent for ten years at Springfield Urban League Head Start where she “loved every child and each one held a special place in her heart.” Throughout the years, she especially treasured her nieces and nephews! In her final years, she cherished the moments with the children in her life.
It was Carrie’s delight to express her love for others by giving them gifts ranging from homemade afghans to encouraging words. She made hundreds of afghans for Wounded Warriors and for everyone who was significant in her life. Carrie loved to write, cook Italian foods, and read her Bible.
