Carmella Sandberg, 75, of Springfield, died at 11:31 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on May 31, 1942 in Springfield to Joseph and Alice Catalano. She married Richard Gale Sandberg on May 21, 1967 and he survives.
Also surviving is one son, Scott (Anne) Sandberg of Springfield; two grandsons, Matt and Jack Sandberg; one sister, Helen Thomas; five brothers, Andy Catalano, Joseph (Beverly) Catalano, Pete Catalano, Tony (Paula) Catalano, and Tom (Theresa) Catalano; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dirk G. Sandberg; five sisters, Frances Smith, Virginia Oldridge, Mary Ann Smith, Joann Sowa, and Nancy Ousley; two brothers, John Catalano and Vito Catalano.
Carmella was a resident of Springfield all of her life. She retired from CVS Pharmacy. She later cared for her grandsons which began her startup of Mella Care.
She was active in Knights of Columbus, enjoyed gardening, family, friends, and dining out.
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12 pm Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home– Springfield with Reverend Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospice at Heritage, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or American Cancer Society.
